SUPPORT US
In 1996, three survivors began a mission to reach out and support others who have lost ones to suicide. Data released by the Center for Disease Control (2021) identified suicide as the 10th leading cause of death. The latest research has shown there is one suicide death every 11.1 minutes with 135 people directly affected by each loss. The Indiana suicide rate has been above the national average since the early 1990s.
Survivors of Suicide of Dubois County (S.O.S.) is working with local mental health providers, schools, and community agencies to provide trainings in suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention. S.O.S. is often asked to present informative programs at meetings and conferences. We will continue volunteering to help our community and our mission. Remember: one suicide death is one too many.
